Technology Description
Aerodyne Research is developing a fast response, compact, room temperature, quantum cascade laser based system for the quantitative analysis of multiple species in human breath by infrared absorption. This instrument will allow the fast, noninvasive diagnosis and monitoring of patients with lung disease. The instrument will be based on tunable infrared laser differential absorption spectroscopy (TILDAS), a powerful tool for rapidly analyzing trace species in air samples, using novel room temperature quantum cascade lasers. The compact instrument will be designed for high sensitivity, high precision, rapid response (millisecond), small sampling volume, and ease of use. The breath analysis system would be intended for deployment in clinics, hospitals and in physicians’ offices.
